Default Fire Hydrant Picture

Ok I know this isn't real interesting. It is just one of those things I drive by every day and never notice. But one day when I went for a walk, I noticed it. I noticed the yard it is in. (That is needs mowing badly.) The house is for sale, and is not being kept up currently.

So that is why I took the picture at this angle. I also thought about the fact that this is one of those things that few people notice, but they are glad they are there and working when needed.

This is the original shot

firehydrant

I did a slight HDR modification with an HDR setting in Photobucket and then re-sized it and sent it to flicker. (Man I wish I had one program that could do all this.)

Anyway here is the modified picture.

firehydrant-1

Any advice on how to capture the picture better? Make it more interesting?
(The sun was sort of behind me to the left as you can see the shadow.) And getting on the left side of it would have shown the house, and I did not want to do that.

Granted fire hydrants aren't the most exciting things to photograph but often finding a new twist on the common can be fun.

I played with a few filters in photoshop and found this does look interesting in a B&W with brown tints. Another thing that has interest is turning it into cartoon colors. You can really deepen the colors before transforming it to make the grass stand out more. I didn't play with the colors, just used the filter here.

Here is a quickie example:

Photos like this can be a lot of fun to play with your filters and artistic stuff on your editing programs.

As to how to make a photo of a fire hydrant more interesting ~ the only thing I can come up with is having a sexy half dressed fireman standing next to it

Hope you didnt mind but since you had 2 photos and only one is permitted in the critique section, I moved your thread to the comparison section

Yeah I like that, I didn't try a pop art setting. (I don't have PSE set up yet.) So I just played around with Photobucket a bit.

I think I will go try a b & w or sepia and see what it looks like. I did like the colors of the hydrant. (But I wanted them to show up better, thus the HDR method.)

I would've actually used a different angle to not get the shadow.
