Question Something of an Experiment

Alright, so I've shown these images to a lot of people I know and an interesting development has come up. My analytical brain wants to see how the data hold up. So just look at them both and then read below.

"Log Left"
Log Left

"Log Right"
Log Right

While I wish I could show these side by side, I can't, so this isn't quite the experiment I wanted. Everyone that has seen the log on the left first has liked that picture over the log being on the right. Myself included, all who have seen the log on the right first (the original) like it better. Originally,I had just wanted to see the change and now I'm just curious as to the reactions. While I doubt this would win any contests, I am glad that I got the exposure so spot on. It's my first picture without any post! (Minus the flipping of course.) So, if you would, just let me know what you think, and why.

perhaps because we "read" from left to right the first one appeals to me more? my eye goes to the left side first out of instict maybe and it seems more natural....hmmm interesting....

I had read in one of my grandfather's old print photography books that pictures set up from left to right usually "read" better; it was why I flipped the image. For me, I look at the first one and feel lop-sided, I guess. But the second feels more natural. I think my eye is going from the slightly out of focus leaf, up the branch and then around to the log, where there's more light and its sharp. But yet again, that was how I took it in the first place. I remember placing all those elements so I thought that maybe I had a biased opinion? I don't know. Thanks so much corry!

In a picture that reads left to right, that means it "builds" with the primary subject to the right....Images that do not read left to right are usually only (more) effective if the right side is basically "negative space".

I prefer the second image.

I like the one below, with the log on the right. Seems more aesthetically appealing.

Thank you guys so much. I'll have to remember to 'build up to' the right I think. I am glad I did this time around.

Second. Mainly because of the curve of the small branch - it made me think I was liking it because that branch went left to right.
