Default Fixing up and old family baby picture.

I'm working on fixing a picture of my great grandma when she was a baby with GIMP. I've got it partial done.

I'd like some advice on whether you guys think I'm headed in the right direction, and if you have any tips I'd love to here them.

Here's the original scan.
Great Grandma Original

And the edited version so far.
Partially edited mommom

Thanks.

I think you've done a great job so far. I've never done anything like this myself but our camera club recently had a lady tell us about some of her photo restorations. I think the key factor here is patience, take it in small steps, it takes longer to do well than you'd think

Oh I forgot, the thing I really need some tips on is what I should do about that bottom right corner? Is there a technique to fixing that or should I just crop it?

Thanks, Lisa. (: I'm trying my best to be patient with it. Haha.

For the lower right corner, I'd start by copying the piece of the chair leg that you have and reflecting it horizontally. Then lay it over the existing part (using lowered opacity while you move it so that you can place it successfully). That should fix about 70% of the missing leg parts. The rest you'll have to carefully clone from nearby stuff.

The floor(?) in that corner looks pretty bland, so filling it should be fairly easy. (I don't think I'd try to extend the carpet that you can see under the chair.)

One thing I'll recommend is that you do try to do everything at 100% zoom. Some changes that are too gradual to see at a full zoom can become apparent when you pull back to see the whole image.

All that said, it looks to me like you have a very good start on the image.

Thanks for the advice, Doug. I'll try that and let you guys know how it goes.
