Default Strange halo...help?

So I took this image this morning and as you can see, there is a slight, dark halo around the sun.

Trying to touch it up in Elements 9 just made it worse.

Is this halo caused by atmospheric conditions? Any suggestions on how to fix it, or avoid it next time?
Thanks!

Sorry I didn't speak up earlier. I'm not a meteorologist so I can't say what the halo around the sun is. In fact, I probably would not have noticed it had you not said anything about it. I don't know what this looks like at full size, but from what I can see from the posted picture, I wouldn't worry about it. It's barely noticable. In fact, I almost have to stare at it to see it.

Default Physics of sensor

I would suspect that the halo is caused by the physics of light around the sun and the mist. You have an iso of 400 so not super sensitive.... so it gets the outline of the silhouette of the trees with no detail and then plain gray of the mist... then suddenly it starts to get data around the sun, and suddenly the detail of the trees becomes visible again. In addition, your aperture of f/5.6 is going to keep a tight focus, which likely was near the brightest part of the image.

Keep in mind I'm just an inebriated math teacher who loves physics and photography, so I could be corrected quite rapidly. But I took the time to type this because I think I might be right this time. Regardless it's a cool shot.
