Default B&W or Split toning

What do you think? Just Grayscale (B&W) or Grayscale with split toning (red one)

Thanks

Of the two I think I prefer the split-toned...perhaps toned down some.

But, I'm not particularly drawn to either....what is the point of the picture? What are you trying to convey?

For me its the B&W, i feel the split tonning takes your eye to the sky, perhaps if it was tonned down a bit?

All the best

Thanks for your replays, It does look better toned down.

I liked the Silhouette of the boy sitting up high listening to music, with the dramatic clouds, and the beautiful architecture at the background.
And I just wanted to capture all that, without really conveying something but maybe telling some story...
That why my first crop, was pretty tight, focusing more at the boy, leaving the rest of the building and the sky out of it, which now I think may be better...

what do you think, its just boring capture, or you see something in it?
any feedback is welcomed

Thanks again!

I think the tighter crop is better. It is more focused and makes more of a statement. I would like more room to the left of the boy.

My first reaction to this was to crop closer too, but even closer than yours. I would also increase the black point to make it a stronger silhouette, maybe adjust the contrast for the midtones and highlights a bit and desaturate a bit.

Like this...

I hope you don't mind, just say and I'll remove it if you do mind. Also, If anyone has any opinion on my edit, I'd love to hear it, I'm learning.

I'm in total agreement with this. especially the crop. it adds something to the story.
Although the story isn't clear, to each their own correct? like,
i see the story of a boy trying to live in a world of clash.
the hate (dark) of the sky vs, the brilliance of the bright.
the old world ( beautiful architecture/ lamp) vs. the spider web of power lines.

if that makes sense. =/ haha. hope the idea helped a lil

Definitely the second one! The sky is beautiful in that one. I actually liked it more when the split toning wasn't toned down, though.
I like the whole photo more than the cropped one. I like the way the whole landscape looks in the first two. Just my opinion, though. They are all great.
