Default B&W vs Sepia - Which one is better and why?

Hello folks... I captured this shot while kids were playing in a park....wanted to run this by you to see if anything is off. Do you think the sepia color fits the picture at all? Share your comments please. Or do you prefer the B&W version. Just trying to figure which one fits better. Appreciate your response.

B&W

SEPIA

EXIF:
Nikon D300
50mm lens @ f2.5
1/2000 (very bright day)
no flash
ISO 100

Cheers,
NikD

Wow. So many views and no comments? Wonder what is lacking to gain interest here. Dull shot, no interesting subject or may be no comments?

Personally I like the black and white one better. To me, the sepia tone makes it look like a very old photograph. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing -- if that's what you're going for, then I'd recommend the sepia -- but yeah, my personal preference would be the black and white, maybe with just a VERY light touch of sepia.

For me the sepia works better, the B&W seems to flat

Great thanks. Yes, when I did the bw and sepia, I felt sepia provided that extra pop to the picture and bw was little flat. May be as suggested, have some tinge of sepia (not that i am crazy about that effect, in fact this would be my first sepia attempt), would probably provide that depth.

Any ideas on making the BW more appealing? How can I provide that extra depth to the picture?

I prefer the black and white. It grabs your attention. I also see more contrast between the girl's hair and her shoulders in the b & w.

I like the sepia best, it makes it look like an old photograph.

But if you like the B&W better, I would try turning up the sharpness just a little. That might make it pop out a little more. That's just my opinion, though.

I like the sepia more, I tend to prefer more contrast in black and whites

I think either one works really. You were right to try and put it in BW and sepia. Her outfit, her bobbed hair and the hula-hoop all scream old photo.

Kcoppock has a good idea. Place it in black and white with a hint of sepia.
