Default black and white or not?

I'm a beginning photographer (just 16) and I wanted to know if between this shot the black and white edit was better or the color original.

I think I'd go with the black and white if it were my shot. It's just a wee bit stronger.

I tend to agree, I think the B&W uses the contrast to better the image, whereas the color seems a little bland by itself.

Definitely the B&W.

The color shot - The first thing my eyes are drawn to is the red brick (stands out) at the top right and this is a huge negative. The fence is lost in this shot.

Mono shot - The fence leads you right into the picture and is by far the focal point for the eye.

B&W here as well, you have more contrast in the dark & light areas

I guess I'm the odd ball. Ever thought about a warmer color shot? It's almost hard to tell, but the red brick house deserves to be seen, IMO

Black & white for me here also. Better overall feel to it.

If you increased the brightness of the whites in the second shot, I think I would prefer that one better. I like the coldness of the shot, and the blues in the picture really help with that. Just needs a bit more contrast!
