Breaking in the new flash

I finally got my new flash this last weekend and got to try it out at the tournament this weekend. I started out without it because the gym was so bright with the white walls, ceiling, and everything but it got darker as the day went on. I feel I am also getting better with my settings, tell me what you think.

i would have bet money the flash didn't fire on any of those... if it did you might want to dial it up a bit because it doesn't appear to be adding anything. Not to say these aren't nice action shots...'casue they are.

Here is one that I know the flash triggered.

You need to check what ever you are doing because your flash is completely ineffective. It does not appear to add any supplemental light to the image. Not even a spec.

Hmm, I don't see any difference between the ones "with flash" and the ones "w/o flash". Might your flash not be working?

Haha, I guess I had not really looked at it like that. I have edited them to look a close to natural as I could. I will have to keep working on the settings so that they are a little brighter.

Would a shallower depth of field be more effective? Just curious.....

What were the settings on your flash?

The shutter speed on the picture where you were sure the shutter speed went off on was 1/200. That is very close to the flash sync speed on a D90. I am truly a novice but I would suggest slowing the shutter speed down and lowering the ISO. (You had it at either 2200 or 6400 I can't remember which on this picture)
