The evangelist. Two shots, two formats

Bought a second-hand car from Germany. While driving back home we did stops in the beautiful old towns along the Romantische Straße, sretched our legs and I took advantage of accidental shooting. With EOS 50D camera and 18-200 kit lens.
Finished corssing the street and there he was. Talking to everyone and no-one. Quick snaps and forward (oh yes, should have tried to get brighter background from different angle). Now I face the quite usual dilemma for me, two different photos that I like, and can't pick the best.

Please comment, which photo is compositionally better. or simply which one you like best.

I like the second one better. Maybe because it's a bit brighter and the preacher stands out from the background a bit. Plus his mouth is open. Dunno why that works better for me.

Definitely the second. Can see the facial expression more, which evokes more emotion.
