I found the railway and the Winter snowy field quite interesting and took the shot handheld on that cloudy day.

I am not sure if black and white effect is a good idea.

Also can you crique on the composition, tonality, HDR processing and others. Thanks.

Nice shot. I've never seen HDR done in B & W before. I like the B&W effect, did you do the HDR in colour as well? Which did you prefer?

Thanks. I prefer the BW one because it better reflects the mode I was in when I stood in front of a railway cross in an open snowy Winter field. Besides, there isn't much more color in the view anyway. But I am not sure if the tone or contract should be done differently.

Sorry, I don't know why the picture doesn't show up properly. I posted it again using the link to flickr. I also posted the color version. Please let me know which one you prefer.

I prefer the version with color. I like the way the blue from the train car connects to the blue in the lower sky, as well as the touch of it in the clouds, and also the way it reflects a bit in the snow below. The color in the sign also adds to the impact overall, though compositionally I would have liked a bit more room to its right so it doesn't seem quite so tight to the edge of the image. Glad you were able to post these images again!

What an intersting paradigm - I FAR prefer the B&W.

By the way - it was worth the wait!

Well done.

I also prefer the B&W version but it really should have a bit more contrast. B&W is all about contrasts, not just a lack of color. Unfortunately the HDR process usually removes most contrast from an image.

What HDR can do for you is bring out detail (especially in the sky), which for B&W is good. I would follow the conversion with a contrast bump or black point adjustment in Photoshop to make the image really pop.

Hope that helps!
