Default Boy Portrait

This was a lucky shot of my son... I did some processing which I'm quite pleased with (it being my first attempt to do any such thing)...but when I go back to look at the original I have a feeling that it looks over-processed. Any opinions about this?

Very nice pose.

I don’t think it’s over processed. The only things I might do is blur the background so the focus is on the child and the toy. I would also sharpen his eyes.

the processing is very subtle. the contrast definitely helped, but something else you did introduced some noise into that beige area on the left. sometimes noise can add some atmosphere to the image in this case (for me) it didn't. What did you do to cause that? Usually increasing the exposure in an underexposed area though curves or levels does this..

I don't think the background is distracting particularly, and if i were to take it further to try options, would try a bright, contrasty black and white conversion. I'd also consider a closer crop on the subject... a slice off the left, a thicker slice off of the right, and then try taking some off of the top or bottom. Will you like the result? Not for me to say, though there's something to be said for playing with framing and composition and thinking beyond the usual.

I agree about the Noise in the left. I tried sharpening the eyes ...that was fun :-) and cropping it close. Here's there result...

I liked that too but then cut it closer because the orange of his shirt was distracting to me...

Thanks for the comments!!
