Default Greyhound Relaxing

Hello all!

I don't do as much post processing as I would like to. But, here we go.

The two photos below are of my new retired racer, Bernie, who has been living with us since we adopted him on October 2nd!

I am curious to hear feedback regarding composition and also regarding my post processing. I was attempting to create a warm, vintage feel with my processing.

Thank you!

EXIF:

Focal length: 50mm

I love the vintage feel! I'm a huge vintage junkie myself =)
However, I'm not too sure about smacking that head right in the center. And the narrow-ish crop somehow enhances the narrow shape of his head...I'm not sure if thats good or bad.
And the angle is a little weird...it rarely looks good when pets are photographed from above, so I'd go to his eye-level or even below it rather than shooting from the "human-point-of-view".

Default angle

I agree about the angle and about going eye-level at least ...it also almost seems like its left eye is "lost" ...this is slightly disturbing.

What a great dog! Congratulations!

We have often considered adopting a rescue greyhound or a whippet.

Vintage is a great idea. The dog’s colouring would lend itself well to sepia or B & W too.

When photographing animals the eyes and noses are usually the focal points, whereas in humans and primates it is typically the eyes and mouths.

Think about how you relate to Bernie—isn’t it usually as you look into his eyes? Try to get down on his level and show his soul through those beautiful eyes and that muzzle.
