Default Do you like this style?

Hi all, I was playing with PS converting to B/W, but leaving some details in color, can you please critic the style?
What transmit to you the combined color & B/W in one pic?

Thanks
Art

Hi, I'm new to the forum but looking forward to joining in.

Art,
I do like the idea of the style (I often combine it with tinting and/or de-saturation) and it works very subtly on that image. I think it would be stronger in an image with a more diverse color scheme.

Is that first one just straight out of the camera? The water looks a little posterized to me.l

Art, what method did you use to achieve the results? What was your goal?
Imo, it looks like a "selective color" image and it doesn't work terribly well as such.

As mentioned by Journey, there is another method of application for B/W with *some* color...I think it would work better on this image.

1.- I selected with magnetic lasso tool then I inverted
2.- I selected enhance
3.- Convert to black & white
4.- done

My goal was to hihglight the color of the boat and put the rest of the pic in B/W
all in PSE
Thanks Art

Well, you achieved the goal..selective color.
I think the "issue" I have is that the water is very "gray" overall...maybe if it had higher contrast.
In this case I think you might have been better leaving a little color in the water...I would have used a B&W layer edited to high contrast, overlaid with maybe 40% opacity..maybe "soft light" mode,,,
