Conditions were complete overcast on the lake. The photo was taken at about 2pm. Anyways, here are the settings and what I've done to the photo in post-processing:
Camera: Canon EOS 40D Exposure: 1/1000 Aperture: f/5.0 Focal Length: 50 mm (Tamron 17-50 f/2.8) ISO Speed: 400 Shot: JPEG Used Adobe Lightroom 3, added +.40 to the exposure, +3 contrast, +20 to clarity, and gave it sharpening via the scenic preset. Didn't do anything to the WB. Original ![]() Processed ![]() First off, what do you think? On my end I'm a little upset with the clarity of his face and body along with the reds on the tube. A lot of the other photos are quite noisy in these areas. It just isn't as sharp as I would like it. |

I think that in the first image, the rope makes a nice line that leads the viewer's eye to the subject. I think you should keep it in the image. I agree that if you feel you have to crop anything, I would crop from the right, not the left. Normally, I don't like the subject right in the middle of the frame, but I think it works here because the rope follows the rule of thirds. I see you shot at 1/1000, so any lack of focus should not be due to the motion of the subject.
