Hi,
This is a shot I took of Loch Lomond. In the original image the shadow of the log in the bottom of the frame was too close to the shoreline which I didn't like so cropped out the shoreline and was left with this.... ![]() The log is now too close to the edge of the frame. I do like all the other elements in the picture but to solve this problem I'd have to crop out most of these... ![]() Any advice? Cheers,

I prefer the first. Although the log in the foreground is close to the edge of the frame it helps to lead your eye quickly to the larger rock and then up to the mountains in the background. Without it, the shot looses that flow and advantage.

Thanks for your replies,
laughlinc, I do agree and it does make sense the way you explain it and now doesn't look as bad to my eyes. lee kivi, I don't like to photoshop too much, since posting I tried a version where I extended the water to give more of a frame at the bottom and it looked ok, but the fact it is photshopped annoys me. Whether it annoys me enough to prefer the annoyance of the log too close to the edge I don't know - just another personal dilemma, I guess. Cheers

This image badly needs a levels adjustment and that should be done before you even think about cropping. I ran this through PS and I can tell you that this is a very different image when the levels are set correctly. The light in the distance is magnificent and with the settings you have now it is hardly noticable. I can't promise that adjusting levels will solve your problem, but at least you will have a clearer idea what you are working with.
(P.S. If you don't know how to do a proper levels adjustment send me a note and I'll walk you through it. It's easy and it makes a huge difference.)

I do know how to levels adjust, thanks though. This is the way it was taken on camera with filters and I like how it turned out. I prefer having done it like this than over processed. Cheers.
