Hi Robert,
I certainly don't come under the "gifted talents" category, but if I may add my two cents...
I prefer the second composition because it makes the subject look far more impressive by showing the whole tree. Also because my eye is clearly led from trunk to branches moreso than in the first. I also like the buildings in the second.
That being said I still think the first is very impressive. Congrats.

I like the second one as well. Especially the sepia tone you've put on it.

Both captures are beautiful. The second one really does show off the enormity of the tree and is more interesting.
