Default How to improve?

I don't want to give a disclaimer...I just want some ideas about how I could have improved this shot - whether it is in the composition, post-processing, etc. Just want some different eyes to look at it.

Canon 50D 50mm/1.8
Shutter 1/40
Aperture f/3.2
ISO 1600 (oops)

A quick levels adjustment will make a huge difference. Not shure what editing program you use, but bring up the levels tool. You will see the histogram with 3 sliders. One for the shadows.....one for the highlights and one for the midrange. Simply move the two end sliders untill they just touch the ends of the histogram. Then adjust the midrange to your liking.

You should do this with every image. If you shoot in RAW, it is best to adjust the levels with the raw editor so you don't degrade the image.
