Default Great pose, how best to process

This shot was taken when my young brother was laughing with his friend while walking away.
One of the first photos i took actually, when still learning to use the camera.
Taken on auto sport mode, and not raw
But I think I captured a great moment.

Original Shot

I tired B&W on it

B&W Shot

What would You, do with it??
I think it has great potential

Camera: Nikon D5000
Focal length: 55mm
f: F/5.6
Iso: 800
Exposure Time: 1/500

Thanks

I like your black and white treatment--I would add a slight vignette to it, as well as dodge his face a little and ever so slightly increase the contrast. You might also think about blurring out the people in the background (or getting rid of them by some other method, such as cloning), as they are distracting from the main element.

I don't think the people in the background are an issue in the second version - turning to monochrome prevents their bright colours drawing the eye and the crop makes it clear who the subject is. There is no doubt in my mind that the second version is a much better result.

Did you edit the original shot on Flickr? The problem with doing that is that the flow of the conversation gets lost. It is best to upload the revised version as a new image and then the two can be compared (now it is a bit tricky to make any comment on whether you have made it better or worse... although I think it definitely looks good).
