Default Cropped or uncropped?

Found this picture the other day that I took over the summer. I can't decide if i like it in its original state or the cropped version. I like the original because it shows how the flowers are the only purple in a sea of green, while I like the second because it shows more detail. I figured I'd let you guys help me out here.

I think they get lost in the "sea of green" in the first image. I like the crop better b/c the subject nearly fills the frame (how about an even tighter crop?).

Looking at this two images I'd vote for cropped one. Composition in first image doesn't really work for me. Maybe even with second crop you could improve it, try rotating or put it off centre. Just an idea, not really sure it would work.

I suspect it depends on where you intend to use this. If you are going to frame it, used the cropped version; it is a much better composition. If you are going to sell it to a magazine, they will appreciate the space around the flowers in which to place their header and copy. Besides, most of them wouldn't recognize a good composition from their elbow if you have them a compass and a map and three days to find it. Photographers have always complained that there best work has been left of the darkroom floor, never seeing the light of day.

I feel that when a subject is centered
it should be close up.

So I vote Cropped

Both your shots merit your argument, but like like the cropped version best because of the detail

I also think the cropped one is much better you really see the detail in the cropped version. I feel the green arround was too strong to leave uncropped.

The cropped version has a better feel, I think. The green provides a nice contrast on the uncropped photo, but there isn't really so much to look at, and the subject really does get lost in the background.
