Default from Error 99 to Lens Error. Restart Camera.

Hi all,

I traded in my Canon 40D because I was getting, after two years, Error 99 all the time. Our great photo store took it back and gave me half of the cost of the 40D back on something new, so I bought a 5D Mark II. After 30+ years of using Canon it was quite a surprise to get the error message, and disappointing to learn how long I'd be without a camera if I opted for repair.

I also bought, about 8 weeks ago, the new Canon D10. Four weeks ago I began getting the Lens error. Restart camera error message, then this camera just shuts down.

I am kind of amazed. I've never had a second's problem with Canon, not in my life to date, and I have been insanely loyal. And suddenly two consecutive cameras in three months pretty much break?

Has anyone else with a D10 have that error message? My camera store WILL take it back, no problem. And I am very tempted to give it to them.

is it happening with the same lens on both cameras? Try cleaning the contacts might help. I have the same problem with only my 18-85 on my 20D

Thanks for replying.

On the 40D, which is now gone, it was with every lens I put on the camera. We tried cleaning contacts and everything we could find recommended on the internet. So we turned it in. I've moved on to the 5D Mark II, and that better not mess with me!

The D10 is a point-and-shoot, so no interchangeable lenses at all. And I've cleaned those contacts for the battery, which is all that can be seen, too.

And still the error message.

wow, sounds like a bad copy of the 40D. We switched to Nikon, and no problems to date (knock wood) Not only did we have the lens issue on the Canon (probably more a problem with the lens, however, and not the camera) but now a recent problem with the onboard flash not popping up and giving an error message. Apparently, a problem with the micro switches that get stuck. Before we moved to the Nikon D300, we (my wife and I) shot exclusively with Canons for many years

Thanks, auto-focus.

I have thought about going to the "other" side, especially after these two consecutive experiences...

The hard part, though, is that I have kinda been mocking the people who have made the switch to Nikon, especially my best friend!

If I have one more Canon issue, I may have to join the Nikon camp...

It was a big move on our part to make the switch considering our investment in Canon gear. My wife will now only use the Nikon for her business, and when we're on a job together I get to use the old Canon

own 5 lenses and two flash units for the Canon...catching up with the Nikon though...4 lenses, and an SB800. And I still love my little Canon G2. Been a great P&S, and still use it a lot for my car photography
