I have a canon 450d. I have recently started using MF more; the AF points did not use to activate as far as I'm aware, but they have recently started to. The lens still doesn't focus automatically in MF mode so I'm wondering if this is meant to happen?
Any help would be appreciated. |

If I understand your question properly, you half click the shutter button and the auto focus points are lighting up even though you're in manual focus mode?
If that was the question then yes, thats a bonus way of focusing to a given point. I focus on something in the frame and the camera will tell me that I'm "spot on" with the focus on that focus point. Another way of doing the same thing in auto focus mode is to center on the subject, half click to 'lock' the focus and then shift the frame to another spot. This makes it easier to focus on something farther away and keep the closer subjects out of the DOF. I don't do this often, but on certain shots it provides a cool effect. Lynn |

Yep, AF points will light up when you manually focus over them. If you mean you're using M mode (manual) on your camera, then yes, they will light up during auto focusing in Manual mode as well... and MF mode in M mode.
