Default Lines through my pictures

Hey, you guys. I recently purchased a used Canon Digital Rebel XTi 8.1 mp from a photographer here in town who was selling off all of her older cameras. She upgraded to the Mark ii and no longer needed this camera. I got it for $250 which I didn't think was a bad deal. It was in perfect packaging (all original), etc. She showed me photos that she had taken with the camera prior to meeting up with her to buy it. It didn't come with a lens. My boyfriend had a crappy kit lens that we attached and took some pictures with but it's a zoom lens and overall didn't take great pictures. We thought maybe it was just the lens or low lighting, etc. that was causing the error. Today I attached a brand new 50mm f/1.8 ii to my camera, went outside in decent light and snapped this picture really quick just to see if I'm getting the same problem and I am.

Any ideas on how to fix this or what is causing it????? I'm sad to think that I may have wasted my $250 on my first ever DSLR.

That's a sensor issue. Time to send it in to Canon for an estimate. Ask the photography you bought it from to send her last shots taken with this camera and examine them.

Thank you for your quick response. I've also posted the same thing on some other forums and users are saying it's a bad CF, data corruption. What do you think?

She did show me the last pictures that she took with the camera and they look fine.

Ever dealt with a bad CF card?

Honestly I'd probably pay more for Canon to repair this than I even paid for the camera. /sigh

Try another CF card first then. It's certainly a cheaper alternative.

hmm.. i get similar banding.. but only when i push the exposure heavily on an underexposed shot.. it never shows on a properly exposed image..
so .. my first thought would be the sensor

but try the CF card first
