Default wide angle lens is this a good one?

I was looking at this lens for $74 and didn't know any thing about. Has anyone owned it and liked it?

I owned one very similar and I liked it. I think it would be a good choice.

He's shooting with a 28-105, so probably just wants to fill in the wide end cheaply.

I'd say pick up a used 18-55 IS kit lens--that way, you'll have stabilization, for the $20-$40 more it'll cost.

In that case I'd be more tempted into one of the many ultra-wide offerings: the Canon 10-20, Sigma 10-20, as well as the Tamron 12-24 and Tokina 11-16s. I think the Tamron would likely fit the bill best.

Yes I am looking for a wide angle lens. I saw that one an didn't know anything about. I was hoping someone had it and could tell me if it is any good. I have a prim 50mm and zoom 28-105. What should I be looking for in a wide angle lens for group photo's I have a big family so it is hard to get veryone in the photo or I have to stand back a ways.

Is a kit lens a wide angle lens?

The kit lens is a wide-to-telephoto lens, replicating the old 28-90 range. Its "wide" in that it's less than 35mm.

As I said, I'd be more tempted by something in the 10-28 range: sadly nobody makes anything quite like that. Tamron's 12-24 is the closest.
