Upgrading to 7D from XSi. I've never used CF cards before and don't quite understand how fast of one I need to take full advantage of the 7Ds maximum burst rate in RAW. I'm assuming the camera has a memory buffer also, so I don't quite need a card that can actually handle the fps the camera will take, but haven't found any guidelines for how fast I need to go. Want to get a couple 16GB cards to match what I've used in SD on my XSi, so this will obviously be pricey and don't want to overpay for something too fast, but don't want to go too cheap and have a $1700 camera that can't do it's maximum fps / burst rate because of the slow memory.

You're looking for UDMA type CF cards, with at least a 300x speed, the 7D can take advantage of the fastest UDMA available. I think the 8GB cards are at the best price point at this time.

I bought 2 8gb 45mb/s Extreme IV Sandisk CF cards when I got my 7D. I haven't had a lag problem yet!
