Good thing about the 77mm is that as you get better and better glass, you'll notice all the filter rings start to standardize at 77mm. Anything less and than a super-telephoto, or extra wide, or extra fast(like the 1.2), in the canon L series will be 77mm... Sigma is doing you a favor by making their EX series 77mm, it makes your polarizers and what such interchangeable!

PS, you should always buy expensive filters for your largest lens, cause you can always get reducing rings, but you can't use a 55mm filter on a 77mm lens

I bought the canon f1.4 because I have a new grandchild and didn't want to be setting off hundreds of flashes in her eyes everytime I see her, I liked the bokeh that the lens produced better than what I saw from the Sigma. In hindsight here is my 2c....I sent back (3) Canon lenses because the focusing ring was so loose and sloppy I couldn't believe it, I'm a toolmaker, a $400.00 lens shouldn't be loose and sloppy. I finally kept the 4th one because I got tired of sending them back, at that point I would have "settled" for the Sigma if they weren't on backorder at every photography store that I would do buisness with. Personally, I find the images produced "soft" and "fuzzy", it's one of my least favorite lenses, I avoid using it at all costs, but the "bokeh" is excellent !!!.......If I had it to do over I would have been more patient and waited for the Sigma.......that's just my experience, alot of people have this lens and are happy with it.

regards.

Default 50 mm 1.8, made in china vs. made in Japan

Hi, am planning to get a 50 mm 1.8 glass. Is there a difference with regards to its optical sharpness, between a lens made in China and a lens made in Japan? Hope you would help me on this.
