thanks for all the advice! i've noticed that w/ lens's holding value. makes sense

as for the price drop.....how long has it been out by you before it dropped in price? (i THINK it was just released in the US in sept/oct. If/when i make a purchase i'd have to be through amazon (gift cards) but i have noticed there usually are some vendors that drop a little in price. saw one on there already for $1600 thats used by a few days only so i'm open to that too. one thing i'm keeping an eye out is for a canon refurb too.
if it could drop from $1699 to maybe 1500 or so by march (when i'd be buying) itd definately help the decision (warming the boss at home up to the idea

i think i mentioned this yesterday but i think i talked myself into the 7d w/ no lens for now after playing w/ both...just has a more professional feel to it. and the 8fps is just ridiculous!
i have a 50 1.8 and 55-250 IS that i think can hold me for now. be nice to have something wider but i dont do much landscape shots or anything like that yet so it hasnt been an issue.

I think the 7D was released here (NL) in pretty much the same time.

I'm looking at the 7D seriously also, but I'm waiting for the second generation to see if there are any bugs they need to clear out of it first. I've heard a few reports of image ghosting, but that Canon is looking into it. In the meantime, it gives me a little more time to save .

As for the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, I bought this lens to upgrade from my original kit lens. I saw a definite difference between the kit lens and the Tamron and the 2.8 really opened up a lot more possibilities. I also have the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS. Definitely sharper than the Tamron, but also way more expensive. Never having personally used the 28-135, I can't speak to it's abilities, but I'm sure the IS is a nice addition. For me, if I had to choose between IS and 2.8, I'd find the 2.8 more useful. BTW, I still use my Tamron quite a bit. It's great on vacations when I want to travel light. Here are some shots using my Tamron.

I sympathize. Sometimes it's hard to look at your budget and your wants and needs and make a decision. Sometimes I think that by the time I get everything on my wish list, I'll be too old to use them .

thank you for the feedback! hmm i hadnt heard about the ghosting issue. i'll have to look into that a little. good to know w/ the tamron also! ideally i'd love to have the 24-70L but thats a bit pricey right now do you think the tamron would be suitable for portraits/occassional wedding shoots? i've read it has issues w/ focus "hunting" in low light. have you noticed this? i'll take a look at your flickr page. thanks for the link!

I have heard about low light focusing issues also but I haven't had a lot of problem with mine, though that may be a matter of how or when I shoot. If I know I'm going into a low light situation, I often pull out a prime, usually my 50mm f/1.4. I've used the Tamron for portraits and it does a good job. As for weddings, that was the reason I bought the 17-55. I wanted a little wider end and the IS to give me a little extra help.
