I have just bought a remote for my Nikon D60 off ebay. Delivered to Spain from Hong Kong, including postage for just 3 pounds sterling. Not a Nikon original, but it works beautifully.

I think it depends on what model camera you have. I use the Canon RC-1 wireless infrared remote for my XSI and it works well enough for my needs. Though with the infrared remote the receiver is on the front of the camera body next to the grip so you have to point the remote towards the front of the camera. Also, I'm not sure if this remote works with the 40/50D line of cameras.

I use a Promaster wireless remote that includes the E3 and N3 camera connection cables. The Canon chart lists pretty much all of the Canon camera models. It is an RF remote which helps if you do not have direct line of sight to the front of the camera as in infrared.

If you do get an XXD camera and it doesn't have this capability, and you don't want to spend $300+ for the Canon wireless remote, a cable release, or a cheap eBay radio shutter trigger is the way to go. I've been looking at the Yong Nuo RF-602, since it does double duty as a remote shutter release and a cheap radio flash trigger, but Yong Nuo isn't exactly known for high build quality and great copy consistency. ![]() The difference between the XXD and XXXD remotes, is that the XXXD remote's connector is a simple mini-audio plug (like the one your cellphone uses). The XXD series uses a Canon proprietary connector (N3) with three pins.

(if it works) above is what I bought 2 of. one for the XTi and one for the 40D. I'm still awaiting delivery but having bought from them prior, I'm pretty sure it will be a decent product for the price. I'll up date this when I receive the items and put them to use.

Amazon.com: Opteka Wireless Radio Remote Release for Canon EOS 5D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, & Mark IIn SLR Digital Cameras: Camera & Photo
I got the version for the T1i, and have seen a lot of positive reviews on Opteka equipment. It says that it will work for the 40D, not sure for the 50D, but if it is the same connection, I cant see why not. |
