Well, the remotes are in town. I missed my postman yesterday, Thursday, so I signed the note left behind in hopes I get it today and can play with them this weekend. They do come registered, for safety reasons I imagine, so plan on that!

YES! I picked them up from the Post Office this afternoon. I'll do some playing around with them this weekend and report back when I'm done...

I'm quite happy with the wireless remote!
Each was about $23 and took about 2 weeks for delivery from Hong Kong. It even came with a battery. Open box, separate the receiver that mounts to the camera from the remote. Insert battery into receiver. Attach to camera... Waa Laa. Done. Operational. I like it because I can just throw it into my pocket and retrieve it quickly. my wired remote I had to be cautious of the 10 foot cord, hang it on the tripod etc. One thing I did not do was check how far a distance it will go. I can check that out at home. Overall, good investment. I'd recommend it. One caution: be sure to turn the remote off when not in use. The battery is not a standard AA or AAA. will need to price out replacements and keep one on hand.

Battery is not rechargeable.
It is a "radio" signal type so it will receive from any direction.

A search on B&H came up with the following. Hope this helps:

That's a great remote, and I love it, but unfortunately, it only works with XXXD bodies, the 5DMkII, and the 7D. If you have a Canon body, if the grip doesn't have a little greyish dot on it, you can't use the RC-1/RC-5; there's no infrared sensor in the camera to receive the signal.
The other drawback to the RC-1 or RC-5, is that it's using infrared. Line of sight (just like with a television remote) is required, and the range is relatively limited, particularly outdoors in bright sunshine. Secondly, it's far easier to use from in front of the camera (say, for self portraits), then from behind the camera. It can be done, but given the placement of the sensor on the front of the grip, it can be a little awkward. If you plan to work primarily behind the camera, a cable release might be a better choice. And, of course, you can always use the timer. Radio triggers will overcome the range and line-of-sight issues, but you have to have an external receiver unit on the camera, as well as the transmitter. The advantage to the RC-1 is how tiny it is, and how it sits on the camera strap, so that it's always with you, and that the receiver is built into the camera. Essentially, you don't have to find a way to pack it in your bag.
