Unhappy The Famous Error 99, Fixed but....

Yesterday my camera failed. All of sudden, it showed the 'error 99'. So i plugged out the battery for a while, and I have tried all of the other advise I found over the net. I think it worked because now I can take pictures back but now there is something wrong with the colour!

here's a few example

the colour went wild!

and I shoot in standard style but it went monochrome yet with some hint of colours streaked ( yellow if u note ).

my camera: canon rebel xs 1000d/ kiss f ( bought thru ebay, US product )
the lense i was using at that time : ef28mm f1.8 usm

I haven't been rotating lenses for quite sometime , if you wonder changing lenses could lead to problem.

I had thought maybe the SD card could be the problem, but I haven't checked it yet. I am using Transcend 4GB . Not sure wheter other people have problem with Transcend.

I wonder if you guys out there could give your thour thought.
I live in Japan, and my warranty only cover in US.I also had contacts the Japan's Canon Support center through email and yet to have wait the reply, since I can't really call, languange barrier and all.

please help, Im really worry.

The Canon error 99 is a communication error between the camera body and the lens. Remove the lens, clean the contacts with a pencil eraser, being careful not to get any rubbings in the lens, and remount the lens. This should resolve the problem.

Googled & found this.

What is the Canon Error 99?

The Canon Error 99 is a message that pops up when there is a contact issue between a lens and the body of the camera. Also it represents a bad battery, defective storage card and anything else the software doesn’t seem to like. It’s basically a catch all error message a bit like the familiar windows BSOD.
Change memory card. I've seen reports of the color discrepancies that you show & that usually came down to being a bad/cheap card.

tried changing the memory card with a point and shoot's..and still the same result..I also did try capturing picture with the dslr's memory card on the point and shoot...doesnt have any problem at all the colour by the point and shoot...

guess it's not about the memory card then...

now I'm just waiting to turn the camera for chek up...

Can you post a link to an original image, straight out of the camera?

I had the Famous Error 99 on my canon XS a few months ago. This error is a generic error foa all Canon bodies not only the XS. It is used for all types of electronic failures of the camera. Lens contact, CF card, battery, Mine was a cold weld on the main circuit board that just gave up during a shoot. I lost the camera for 5 week to canon repair during summer and the issue was resolved. Now it is back good as new or even more. they did an upgrade at the same time on the software, cleaned the sensor..... You see the problems you are getting are not the same as the ones i was getting. I could shoot all i wanted until i turned off the camera or it went into sleep mode then the error 99 would pop up and lock me out. I would have to pull the battery and start over. not very usefull on an important shoot day.

Good luck with your camera.

What I meant is even straighter out of the camera. These photos have been resized by Flickr, I want to inspect the original files. Just to take a look at the EXIF data, the JPEG header, etc.
