Hello, I had a Canon SD880IS and it was recently stolen
I liked the camera ok and wouldn't mind staying with Canon but I was wondering if they had a model that had either more manual controls or shot in RAW or ideally BOTH. Or is that asking too much from a point and shoot? I know eventually I would like to purchase a nice dslr but I can't afford to now. What would be the best bang for my buck in the p&s category? Oh, and I'm a single mom so my "buck" isn't that much

G11 or maybe a nice used G10 from someone that couldn't wait to upgrade! That's if you want to stick with Canon. I personally recommend the Panasonic TZ-x line. I've owned a TZ-3 and really enjoyed it!

The G11 is nice, but the most expensive P&S Canon makes ($500). If you can spend a bit and want to stay with the smaller size factor, then the S90 ($430) might be what you want (usable iso 800 and an f/2 28mm equiv. wide end on the lens are good good things). However, both it and the Panasonic LX3 are hard to find in stock right now.
But, IMHO, in the Canon lineup, the $250 SX120IS is probably the best bang-for-the-buck camera. It's a stabilized superzoom, has full manual control, and while it doesn't do RAW, the CHDK can take care of that. It specs/prices out close to the Panasonic Lumix TZ-5. It is a big bigger than your SD, though.
