Hey guys, I am wondering if its just me, but when I bump up to ISO 400 I seem to be getting too much noise. I am fine when I am at 200 or 100. Am I the only one with noise issues? Or is b/c I used the wrong ISO and should have used 100? This will not be printed bigger than 8x10, so I am not TOO horrified, but I still think it should not be so noisy.
Here is an example.

I did not know about a new firmware version, but I looked it up and it does not correct for noise issues, but I will upgrade when my battery is fully charged!

Yes, you can download it from the Canon website. They give you instructions on how to flash the firmware in the camera.
Check the version in your camera, first--it's in the menus. The current version is 1.0.7. The main fix from 1.0.6 was the "red noise" issue at the high-end (i.e., >1600) iso settings. You probably won't see an overall improvement in noise performance. Have you tried processing with DPP instead of ACR? And are you sure you're not adjusting for underexposure, which increases noise?

I did check but when I looked at the exif it was at 0 or a bit over exposed. And no, I have not tried processing in DPP, would that make a difference? i have version 1.0.3...better get to upgrading!

Different people have different opinions, but DPP supposedly handles the noise better. Personally, I'm not bothered by 1600 on my 50D. But I'm not particularly sensitive to noise.

I'll try and see if it makes a difference - don't want to run through noiseware - but I will...
