Smile 7D video or HF10 video

Hello all,

This is my first post on this site and I am quite eager to see if someone could help me with this question of mine...

I currently have a Canon VIXIA HF10 Camcorder - highest quality is 17Mbps. I know the 7D comes out very soon I and will eventually get it as my first DSLR. I am curious if the video capabilities of the 7D will be better than those of the HF10. I know some of the pros to having the 7D for video is that you (probably) have a much better DOF, plus lens choice, plus 60p (vs. 60i from HF10), but overall will the video from the camcorder be better? I'm sure that the smoothness of zoom and auto focus from the camcorder would be better than a DSLR. My predicament is with the video aspect only, I know that with the 7D I will also be getting an incredible SLR.

I am curious to know because I would like to sell the HF10 to help save for the 7D. Like I said before, in any case I'll end up with the 7D, but will I still need the camcorder or should I sell it now to help pay for the 7D?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I'm the kind of person who believes "right tool for the job". That means that I will shoot video with my video camera, and not with my DSLR.

I have, and will again, shoot video with my P&S camera, because I don't always have my video camera with me.

Know that when using the video function of the DSLR, you loose the ability to auto-focus.

Well, I know nothing about your camcorder, so I dunno. Sorry.
Buttttt, my cousin's husband (who's a graph designer and a photographer/vidgrapher on the side) just got a 7D for personal use (I think). And he uploaded a vid from the 7d, and the DoF and color's are superb, as is the quality (and I don't even have a HD computer screen).
So if you want a SLR with a good video camera, then roll with it.

Do you know the difference between 24p and 30p vs 60i at 1080 resolution, or 50p and 60p at 720?

Valid point: there's a lot more to video quality than out-and-out MB/s. I can make a 640x480 video go to 17MB/s, but it wont be any better.
