... like after I bring up Contax mount adapting with a ring, a Canon shooter couldn't do the same with a Nikon F lens... Although, honestly, I've seen the OM-mount Olympus Zuiko 50 f/1.8 go for $10 used, and it's smaller than the Nikon lens, almost a pancake.

I don't want a 300mm lens. I don't need to zoom. I just want crisp, vibrant photos. I don't even care if it's used, as long as it works.

I was thinking maybe the Canon 50mm f/1.8?

I don't really know though. I would appreciate any help I can get!

Thanks!!
Go to SLR GEAR . Their reviews are usually spot on for any lens. B&H Photo is a good on line place to buy from. Their prices are good also. For 300 or less , you really don't have alot to choose from............i'd say the 50 1.8II or the 35 f/2 are prob. the sharpest 2 lenses for 300 or less.

I know my choices aren't big at all, but I just want affordable quality. Does anyone know if tamron or sigma make anything really good in this price range?

I recently got a canon 50mm f/1.4 refurbished for a good price. Call around and ask your local shops what they have in stock.

Default 60mm macro

Probably can find a 60mm macro used for under $300. VERY sharp.

My first DSLR that I just got a month ago was the Canon 40D, as my first lens I got the 50mm f/1.8 after using the same lens for a few months on a borrowed Nikon D80, I love that lens its great! And till I am able to aford something else that lens is just fine for me.

I bought the 50mm f1.8 on a coworker's suggestion after I bought my XSi, and I was extremely happy with it. I ended up using it way more than the kit lens, at least until it got broken by TSA a couple of weeks ago.

Here's a shot I took at a concert with it a couple of weeks after I got it:

On the plus side, it's light, nice and sharp, and inexpensive. On the down side, it's made mostly of plastic (hence the lightness) and it felt flimsy even before it was broken.

I'm replacing mine with the f/1.4, but that's out of the price range you specified.

I'd suggest the 50mm f/1.8.

If you can afford it then I'd look at Tokina lens. I've got the 50-135mm f/2.8 and it's pretty damn sharp but it's out of your price range that you stated.
