Exclamation Canon Rebel XTi problems uploading photos

Can someone please tell what is wrong with my camera or if it is something that I am doing wrong? When I try to upload my photos to my computer I get a busy message on the camera. I have been told it is my computer getting ready to crash or the software.
Someone else suggested that it was the memory card. I switched out cards and was able to upload one time and then the message came back. My photography instructor said that it might be the camera and I should get rid of it. I then went to a camera shop and they think it might be the cable. Has anyone else had this problem? I am really getting frustrated and have stopped taking pictures as a result. Help!

Are you trying to upload the pictures directly from the camera? If you are, did you install the Canon software? You may need the EOS Utility installed in order for the computer to recognize the XTi so you can download the image files.

I've been shooting with a XTi for a year and a half but I've always used a card reader to get the RAW files onto the computer. I never tried to download the RAW files directly from the camera.

Wink Canon Rebel XTi

When it says busy it is trying to get the computer and camera in sync if you wait just a few more moments it will tell you what to do instead of saying busy. It will say download all images etc. If it takes awile then you probably have alot of pics so just be patient.

Get a card reader--they're cheap. That will take the camera and the cable (and the app) out of the equation. It's also a good way to avoid having to run down the camera battery just to download your photos.

Yeah, most card readers cost less than $20 nowadays. Plus you don't have to have any special software installed to use a USB card reader, the computer "sees" it as just another hard drive so you can access it easily.

Seconded. I've NEVER plugged a camera into my computer. Literally. I dont understand people that do.

Oh, c'mon. Even Scott Kelby's enjoyed tethered shooting. There are a few benefits. Then again, we Canon shooters get the software to do tethered shooting for free, while you Nikon shooters have to pay for it, which may account for it.

'Busy' is meant to happen.

Connected my camera a few times, when I've not got my card reader.

I shoot RAW with my XTi and have always used a card reader, I've got the software that came with the camera installed on the computer too. I've never had any problems.

Ah, but tethered is totally different than uploading with a cable. Tethered does have it's uses (and I've needed it on a few times, sadly). Tethering yes, regular uploading not a chance.
