    Default Good Travel Lens?

I am going to be going on two separate trips to Alaska and Kenya, Africa later this summer. I would like to buy a new lens that would suit my needs for these two trips, but I need help choosing.
I am currently flirting with the idea of getting either the Canon 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 or the Canon 28-135 f/3.5-5.6, but I'm not sure which one of these is better, or if I should get another lens altogether.
    My current setup is a Canon T1i With a kit 18-55 f/3.5-5.6, a 55-250 f/4-5.6, and a 50 f/1.8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

So, uh, what's wrong with your current kit?

The only thing I'd be tempted to suggest is renting something longer than 250mm: Africa and Alaska are both BIG places and, from experience, greatly benefit from very long telephotos.

    What about the 70-300 f/4-5.6?

Not enough of a difference, really. At least spring for the 100-400; better yet would be something like the Bigma (50-500) or a Tamron 200-500.

    To rent:
    LensRentals.com - Rent a Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS
    LensRentals.com - Rent a Sigma 50-500mm f/4.5-6.3 HSM OS for Canon
    LensRentals.com - Rent a Tamron 200-500mm f/5-6.3 SP Di LD for Canon

    +1. Kit + 50-500 IMO....unless you have big bucks.

First of all I am sooo envious... how lucky to be going on two such wonderful trips...
I hope someone with more experience will chime in and answer your questions... I will be watching this thread with interest, I have the exact same set up you have.... I did however, just buy a used canon 28-135mm.. I am still getting acquainted with it... but so far I really like it, it is a pretty heavy lens though.

Next If I were going on these trips I think I would be looking at some far reaching lenses:> I would not want to get to up close and personal with many of the critters that live in either of these places...but would definitely want to capture some pictures of them... and a good tripod to boot.

Good luck and have a great time on your two trips

Sorry, I wasn't aware that trying to gain as much information as I possibly can was a bad thing.

If you don't mind my asking, why is that the case?

It means there are several threads essentially clogging the forums that contain the same information request. It can get confusing for those who are replying to the threads and it's messy.

This is general forum etiquette you'll see just about everywhere.
