Default yet again... 7D Vs 60D... and why?

I'm looking to upgrade. I've narrowed my choice to the 7D or 60D and have deadlocked. Need a little help pushing me in a direction. So which would you shoot? The 7D or the 60D and provide your reasoning so that I may make an informed decision.

I genuinely appreciate you help.

Are you still shooting soccer and other sporting events? I would recommend the 7D if so, it's designed as a strong sports/wildlife camera, primarily in terms of the autofocus system. The 60D has 9 cross-type AF points where the 7D has 19, which can be selected in terms of single points or in three distinct zones of autofocus. The 7D has higher FPS, 8 vs. 5.3. Both are similar in ergonomics, with similarly sized grips and two command dials. The 60D has the articulated LCD which is nice for low level macro work or trying to get an overhead shot.

It's always a good idea to go into a camera store and get a feel for each model in-hand to see what you might prefer. I had no idea how slick the 7D's AF system was before I got my hands on one.

Budget?
7D does a a few things a lot better and has that very nice Magnesium body.

Faced with the same decision, I went with the 7D.

Faster burst speed and awesome auto focus system pushed me that direction. I think there may have been some other reasons, but these were the two biggies for me. It's an incredible camera (in my limited experience with DSLRs); I may actually learn how to use it by the time I wear it out and need a new one

Edit: just remembered something else - CF cards; 7D uses them and I had a bunch already and didn't want to buy SD cards. Not a real good reason for the choice, but it was part of the equation. Also, the 7D allows the user to define up to three custom settings (essentially storing 3 different manual settings) which I don't think the 60D has. I honestly didn't know if I would use those, but I have found them pretty handy when shooting in lighting conditions that change predictably. Did I mention that the auto focus system rocks? It's pretty sweet when shooting sports or other types of action and you don't want to use the center focus point.

Incidentally, Newegg was running a great deal on 7D's a couple of days ago - but I don't know if it is still in effect.

Check this out: Canon 60D vs 7D

I faced this issue as well, 60D vs 7D vs Nikon D7000, given that I don't have any prior commitment with lens, I'm going for D7000.

Still shooting sporting events (mainly soccer) and outdoor photography. I'm leaning to the 7D so you're helping push me in that direction. I wanted to make a final "pass" to ensure I wasn't overlooing a feature in teh 60D.

Thank you for your input!

Sports = 7D
Outdoor photography = almost any camera, including a P&S, if you have time enough for longer exposures. If you don't have time then a good DSLR with a fast (f2) lens.

Great input! It would be my luck to have missed the New Egg deal... LOL

Default Wierd, but true.

I faced the same dilemma when upgrading from XSi and T1i. 7D or 60D? Which one do I need? In the end I went with the 60D for 3 reasons:
1.) It does flash commander for A, B. If I need C, I have 2 550EXs.
2.) It was $700 cheaper than the 7D.
3.) I already own about 100GB of SDHC cards. (Ok, NOW you can laugh.)

I have about 10,000 shots on my 60D, kept the T1i, sold the XSi. I have never regretted any of these decisions. The 60D is a great camera. I can't say anything about the 7D except that it DID feel much better in my hands. I just could not justify the purchase.

Lots of shiny glass stuff and a few flashes. Latest hardware: 100-400L. Yippee!
