Default 'Upgrading'

I got a 1000D a few months back, almost a year now i think, or only 3 quarter of a year.
And im starting to want to sell my 1000D and buy a 2nd hand 30D, topping up about 67$.
To me, the difference in build, ergonomics, viewfinder is quite worth the money
In terms of IQ, according to reviews, they say its no big difference.

What do you guys think? Im sorry but sometimes i need some assurance on what im doing. lol
Thanks for input

The 30D is a 5+ year old camera. Save your money and get something current when you really need to upgrade.

If i get my priorities right , meaning lenses first, i wont be getting a current camera until i get the primes i want.

Okay. What's wrong with that? I was shooting pretty much all L lenses on my 450D before I absolutely had to upgrade.

Haha, i suppose theres nothing wrong. But oh my gosh its so tempting lol.
Getting that old camera to me, is just to get those extra buttons. And ill probably stick with it for a long while.
What a lame reason to open a thread .

I just caught myself, lol. I'll bet thats what everyone says when they're trying to find a reason for a purchase.
"Im getting that just for xxx, ill probably stay with it and not buy another for a while" Repeating all the time.

I started with a 30D, and I'm glad I went that route vs. a Rebel. If I were in your shoes, though, I think I'd at least want to get into a 40D. One reason to favor the 40D at this point is that there's no way for an end-user to get a shutter count on a 30D, so you're not only looking at a 5+ year old camera (as Mike indicated) but you also can't tell how well-used it is. A 40D might also be several years old, but you'd be able to get some sort of clue about how hard it's been used.

Before you run out and pull the trigger on that, though, what sort of photos are you trying to take? Based on the fact that you're buying prime lenses, I'm going to guess there's a good chance you're doing portraits or landscapes. If so, give some thought to what sort of camera body you want to wind up with eventually. It might make more sense for you to save up and get into a 5D later rather than making a pit stop on the 30D / 40D -- those cameras are definitely a step up in ergonomics & usability, but you'd still be shooting with a cropped sensor. Without knowing what you're trying to shoot, though, I'm just taking a shot in the dark on this one, though.

dlambert - I should've started straight with the mid range ones, but then i wouldnt be able to get the camera as early as i did with the 1000D, i would be held back a few months of learning photography.
My point is, i dont really regret what i have learnt and took the Rebel route. Yes im interested in doing portraits, havent really done a real shoot, though one day i will.
What would be the benefits of FF in portraiture?
The 5D is extremely expensive, about triple or quadruple of my budget, lol.
The only thing i can afford is xxD, probably not the 60D thats 1000$ +-, not sure about 50D.
I would actually like taking a pit stop at xxD and build up my lens collection, because then id be working with a nicer body.

I have both the 30D and 40D and I love them.

If you are going to go for one of these, I'd go the 40D route. It's just a much more improved camera over the 30D. On ebay right now, you can get one of these used starting at $350 which is damn good. Not a lot of difference in price that I can see between the two bodies in used condition on ebay.

Save your money for better lenses as this will be a much better option if you want the quality of your photos and workflow to improve. Sure you can get a 5D if you save up, but then you still have to save up for those L lenses and this will be a longer way to get good glass.

But you know all this now I'm just echoing what everyone has said here.

I'm a bit skeptical when buying things off ebay or amazon or anything like that, if anything happens i'd have to pay the price, literally, and i have no extra cash to spare. But the prices you said (350) is really a better price compared to what i've found locally, so its a bet i guess.
And theres also shipping fees.

You'll find that many, many people buy off ebay and amazon for their gears. There are sales that also include shipping with the pricing, so you just need to look at the details of the sales.

You can also look at the ebay and amazon sellers rating list and feedback. You'll find that if they have good reputation, you have nothign to worry about. If there is something wrong with your purchase or unhappy about it, not many sellers will not accept a refund or exchange. You'll just have to be good with reading terms and conditions on the sellers's sales, etc.

I have bought gazillion things off ebay and amazon and barely had any issues.

So go have a look and familiarise yourself with these two sites. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be glad you did as these are major online places to get great deals on anything.
