Hi,
I am planning to buy a 70-300mm lens. But I found two canon lenses, one with IS and another is without IS. Lens comes with IS more expensive compared to other one. So which one should I buy? Is it worth to spend extra money for a IS lens? Or shall I buy non-IS canon lens? Please advice. |

I am not aware of any current Canon 70-300 lenses that do not have IS.
Could you post a link to the non IS version? Most of my zoom lenses are stabilised. It may allow you to capture images you could never other wise capture, with out a tripod.

Not sure if what you are looking for is what "IS" is. If so, "IS" stands for "Image Stabilization". It means that these lenses have the ability to compensate for small amounts of movement in the lens during focusing and shooting.

I wouldn't have a telephoto without it.

Agreed. It's not necessary, but it sure is a HUGE help. Anything 100mm+ benefits from a stabilizer.

Actulally what I cant deferentiate is following lenses.
Amazon.com: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo http://www.amazon.com/Canon-75-300mm...6004848&sr=1-4 I cant decide which one to buy. One is expensive compared to other one and it is with IS. Is there anyone who have used non IS lens of canon? |

Read the reviews.
See this for the 75-300: I own it, but do not use it any more and the only reason to keep on using it is if you cannot afford anything better. Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens Review and this for the 70-300, which I also own. Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens Review

But tell me what is the disadvantage of buying Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM? And there is an another lens named Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, Which comes with IS. Should I buy Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM or Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS? let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks, |

Re the 75-300 - One word: and it is the review -mediocre.
Yes there is a Canon 55-250. It is a better lens than the 75-300 (I own one also) but I feel not as good as the 70-300 See the review, Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens Review What do you want to use the new lens for and what is your budget? .

Every time I look at 70-300 options, I keep going back to the 70-200 F4 L.
With so many MP in modern cameras, you can crop that added 100mm without a problem. The speed of the AF and the IQ of that lens, makes it the best value for money on the market. |
