Unhappy Need Help Focusing Issue

I'm having a super time canoodling thru this group - But I think I'm posting incorrectly and/or in the wrong places.
If anyone CAN help me, I'd be so grateful.
I have a Canon 50D and recently, I tinkered with one button too many I think and I cannot see the focus in my viewfinder. In auto mode, you hear a beep with your subject is in focus however, nothing is clear in focus through the viewfinder - anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I don't know Canon cameras, but did you turn off the auto focus switch or button (AF). Can you manually focus successfully through the viewfinder? If so it sounds like you may have turned off the AF.

You've probably bumped the diopter for the viewfinder itself. There should be a knob or slider on one side of the viewfinder window.

I'd put the camera on a tripod, stick it in full auto, point at something and half-press the shutter to get the camera to auto-focus on the object. Then, while looking through the viewfinder, adjust the diopter until the object is in focus.

I ran into a similar issue shortly after getting my camera. I tried all the above remedies to no avail and reached the point of distraction before finally realising I still had my reading glasses on.
