Default macro lens issue

I have a Tamron AF75-300 macro lens and a Rebel T1i digital camera. My Tamron lens fit on my old camera, but does not seem to fit on the Rebel T1i. ANy ideas? Should I fork over the $ for a new macro lens, or are there adaptors that can make the lens work?

Thanks for your advice!

What kind of camera did you use the lens with before?

Is it this lens? What mount is the lens? I assume it was EF / EOS Canon autofocus mount as that's the only kind I can look up with that description, but as others said, what was your old camera? A Rebel should be able to accept any Canon-mount AF lens.

Also, just fyi, that isn't a macro lens. True macro lenses don't zoom, and that one certainly doesn't have enough magnification to qualify anywhere near true macro.

Yes- it was that lens. Camera was not a digital camera. I didnt know if they make adapters that can make this lens fit my new digital canon??? Or if I should just go buy a new lens. Any thoughts? Thanks!

It should fit perfectly on your current DSLR without adapters.

Was the old camera even a Canon? How old? If as you said, the lens doesn't fit the T1i, then I'm not sure that it's even worth trying to adapt it. You stand the chance of the AF not working - might even have exposure issues? If the lens is pretty old, the image quality might not be what you want with the resolving power of the T1i. Even modern long range zooms like that tend to come up short on IQ at some point in their range anyway.

I'm just guessing, since I have no experience with that lens, but I know that the old Vivitar zoom that I had on my Minolta SRT-102 would never find a home on my T1i.

Still hard to say for certain but I'm thinking this must have been that Tamron lens in a Nikon mount. If so it may technically be possible to adapt it for the Canon mount, but honestly not worth it. It's a cheap telephoto lens, if that's all you want you can get a Canon 75-300mm lens, or a used Canon 100-300mm lens.

Not to mention if you've got the money you're better off with the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens, its optical quality is superior to everything I've mentioned previously, and it has the Image Stabilizer. The trade off is it's nearly 3x as expensive, but it's generally a bad idea to cheap-out when spending money on lenses. Don't take the money you spent on your DSLR and throw it away by attaching it to a crap lens, put garbage in get garbage out.

If your budget is limited and you can't afford a ~$500 lens, I've used the 100-300 with some success, it's still a cheaper telephoto zoom and it has its weaknesses, but it has a fast focus and it's a decent lens to get your feet wet.
