As a general rule, the prices don't come down significantly when a new model comes out. The price has already slid (the 7D was originally $1700, and now can be picked up for $1400 or so), and the new model typically comes in at or above the initial price of the old one. The old model just fades away. Sometimes the prices even go up at a few resellers, due to scarcity.
Canon doesn't tell us what's coming up. If they did, people would quit buying cameras until the new stuff came out. The 7D is two years old. Canon updated the original 5D after three years, and the 5D Mk II is already over three years old. My guess would be another year before the next 7D. But that's just a guess... maybe Canon wants to slip a Digic 5 in there. |

What he said. Price drops happen by supply and demand like everything else. When a new model comes out, it still takes time for the used model supply to increase and demand to drop. Price changes tend to be a continuum, not cliff-like.
The 7D is the first of its line, so we've got NO clue when it's due to be refreshed. Check out the Wikipedia table on Canon camera models, and you'll see there's never really a set schedule. Toss in a tsunami that shut down most of the camera/sensor plants in Japan for months, and a flooding in Thailand, and it's anybody's guess when stuff is coming out.

The Canon 7D is designed for speed, with dual DIGIC 4 chips to speed processing of these large 14-bit files, as well as keep up with the shutter's 8-frame-per-second top speed. 7D deliver for the money, since it's packed full of newer technology and for the people who want it, the video component is truly killer.
