Default Firmware Update

hi to all members and administrators
i am new here and in d-slr, i just bought my 2nd hand canon d1000. i want to ask if do i need to update my cam's current firmware ver.1.0.3 and i know that there is ver.1.0.7 already. is there a big difference regarding with this... my cousin have same model, but it seems her pictures is better than mine and her firmware is 1.0.7.

Hey Randy - swap cameras with your cousin and if her photographs are still better, then you could probably ascertain it's nothing to do with the firmware.

Didn't know you could update firmware on a camera. How do you do that?

Firmware updates are sometimes there to cure a "fault" and sometimes to just add or improve a function - bit like any software update.

It is doubtful that the firmware would actually improve the images much unless the manufacturer totally screwed up in the first place . But as someone suggested, swap with your friend and see if yours then turn out differently.

Ambrosia - firmware is done by downloading the update, transferring to the memory card and then following the instructions, which are normally in the manual or supplied with the update.
