Question Battery Grip for Canon T3

Hi Everyone,

I need some advice on whether or not i should purchase a battery grip for my Canon T3? I've heard many opinions about grips, one they are not necessary due to added weight and secondly, they are a tremendous help when it comes to portrait/vertical photograhphy.

Any help will be appreicaited.

Just popped this into the gear section.

I'm not a Canon user, but I have a grip on my Nikon. I actually prefer the size that the grip adds. It makes my camera much more comfortable. I tend to forget about the second shutter button, but it's also really nice having that second battery in there. So I'm a fan of them.

I use a battery grip for my 40D. Man, it's heavy. It gets really heavy when you then put an external flash on and then have to shoot continuously for more than half an hour. However, it does give me the advantage of not having to change batteries more often, however, it's not that hard to quickly pop on a new battery, either without the grip.

If you have plans on doing long shoots, why not. But for me, I think I'd rather spend the money elsewhere like towards a new lens or lighting gear, etc.

I keep mine on at all times. Tremendous help for vertical shots (I have a hard time now doing them without one), but also a great help if you're using heavier lenses, particularly so on a smaller, lighter body like a T3. Having a second battery on board also makes things easier.

Have one on my T3i, and much prefer having it there. I personally like the extra heft that it gives. And since it came with two more batteries, I now have four altogether, so I can go quite a while.

I also like having the shutter release and controls on it so holding portrait style means no more funky hand positions.

Holy sh*t, there's something I'm missing here.

There's controls on the battery grip???? I thought it's just there so you can have an extra battery.....

Damn it, this is what happens when you get handed gears and not look up what they're for.

---dashes to look at the knobs on the battery grip---
