Default Is there a way to assign a button to achieve this?

I want to quickly toggle the front wheel function between aperture and shutter speed adjustment. Is there a way to assign a button to achieve this?

I've a 60D.

The manual has got me confused.

I am not sure about 60D. I am using D5100 where there are no dedicated buttons for ISO, aperture, shutter speed, wB, etc.

wheel function could be either shutter speed or aperture. Then +- button + wheel controls aperture or shutter speed. Function key + wheel controls ISO or wB. flash button + wheel controls types of flash..Therefore, they becomes about the same flexible as D7000 or other advanced camera. Just need combination of two or three fingers.. to operate together.

So, try press every other button while turning the wheel, then you will discover something "surprise"...

If there are 3 buttons on your camera, you should able to adjust

3X2X1 = 6 types of settings, just by pressing the button. good luck ;D

Default There are TWO ways to do that!

One way is to switch between Av (front dial does aperture) and Tv (front dial does shutter speed. Use either mode according to the needs of the shot.

A more common way to accomplish the same thing is to shoot in Manual. In M mode the front wheel controls the shutter speed and the rear wheel controls the aperture. The added bonus here is that you can use both at the same time, without changing any other settings.

Lots of shiny glass stuff and a few flashes. Latest hardware: 100-400L. Yippee!

I'm interpreting your post as you are trying to toggle between different front wheel functions while you are shooting in manual mode. I don't have a 60d, but just took a look at the manual for it, and it looks to me like you do not have that option.

Otherwise, as taschrief noted, switching between different priority modes changes the function of the wheel.

Nope don't think so. Odd, I love the independence of using top wheel for shutter speed, and back wheel for aperture in M mode vs. only having the top wheel and the Av +/- mode button. Wouldn't go back to the dRebel style of single-wheel if you paid me. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

No, I just admitted to having once been one of you. But until you've tried both types of controls, can you really say you know which one you prefer?

Trust me, I've gone on record multiple times on this board in saying I actually prefer the dRebel size/weight and feel in the hand to my 50D. But it's the 50D's control layouts and better fast-action shooting capabilities that made me a 50D owner. Well, that, a dead 350D/XT, and the CLP letting me paying less than a dRebel price for one.
