Default $1,000 to blow

Ive got $1,000 from my part of a weddIng shoot to buy some new stuff
What would you spend it on.

I currently have a 7d, tamron 28-75 2.8, canon70-200 4.0, 580ex2, a low pro sling bag that holds next to nothing.

I decided I would get a think tank urban disguise 40, rapid strap rs-4, canon 85 1.8, expo disc 67mm, lens hood, canon battery grip for 7d, second battery. Good choices or am I blowing money on something I don't need.

I wouldnt bother with an expodisc, frankly. Not much use in the digital age unless you're shooting digital straight-to-delivery, and even then...

I dont personally like the BlackRapid RS-4, but most do.

Which lens is the hood for?

Why the 85/1.8? Just wondering the rationale.

The grip and spare battery are good choices, for sure, and a bigger bag is likely a necessity, though remember to buy a stage bigger than you currently need (or think you'll need). Things tend to... well creep up on you.

I'm not sure this works out to exactly $1000, but how about selling the 70-200 4.0 and upgrading to a 70-200 2.8?

Well the expo disc is definitely the thing I am on the fence about the most , just not real sure of how much time it would save in post a min here and there add up over the years.

The hood is for the 85mm and the reason for the 85 is I want a prime and with my 70-200 I am usually around the 85 mark when shooting portraits and thought the extra speed would be nice for some more selective focus in some scenarios.

The trading up of the 70-200 was actually my first thought but the more I thought on it I realized I needed a new bag more so right now and definitely an extra battery. Though that will be one of my next purchases after a couple more weddIngs

The 85 1.8 is great, you won't regret that one.

Seems like you are pretty well thought out...
Skip the expodisk...you can buy $2 fleabay W/B caps that get the job done if you want.

I think the Urban Disguise 40 is a bit small.. I have the retrospective 30 and can (barely) carry a 70-200 w/ camera attached. But for a wedding and active shoots I would use my Speed Racer. In fact, the speed racer has become my primary bag these days...everything else lives in Pelican Cases.

200mm f/4 at 10ft: 0.11ft DoF
85mm f/2 at 10ft: 0.31ft DoF.

Just a thought.

i get what your saying about the depth of field comparison but at 200 and 85 on a 1.6 crop factor you are also talking close to a 185mm differance in focal length.
