Hi,
Since a few days I've been having a problem with my Canon EOS 500D (Rebel) The shutters seem to get stuck leaving me with half black photos. Other times the shutters open when I make a picture but take seconds to close again. Does anyone know if and how this can be fixed or should I get it to a Canon repaircentre? (It's just out of the warranty so I expect that's going to cost quite a lot so I hopes there was something I could do about it) Does anyone else have this problem with this camera too? Thanks! |

Actually, I'd disagree. It sounds like the shutter or mirrorbox assembly is in trouble, and you might need to get that replaced. And it is a relatively expensive repair. It's possible that someone just went through the shutterbox life of the camera. They're usually rated for around 100,000 clicks or so, but if, say, someone used it for stop-motion animation or something, it could be that the mirrorbox mechanism is worn out.
I would also check that you don't have mirror lock-up turned on. MLU requires that you hit the shutter button twice to take a picture. This doesn't seem likely given the partial frame issue. But if you were using flash, the partial frame thing could be caused by going over your max. sync speed (1/200s).
