I'm looking for an entry level DSLR not too pricey though. Plan to take a lot of pix of my newborn baby and would also like recording ability. Do you suggest the ts3, t2i, or t3i? Also is the standard lens ok like 18-55 or what? What's a good amount of Megapixels? Thanks!!

I think Canon's entry level DSLR camera is the 1000D. I bought my camera (600D) with the kit lenses but later realized that I shouldn't have. I would have been better of using that extra money to buy a lens of better quality and more useful.

If you're planning on takeing pictures of your baby than the EF 50mm f/1.8 II is good for portraits. I'm only new at this too but this is the advise I have been given and have found it helpful.

So to cap maybe look at a 1000D, a EF 50mm f/1.8 II and possibly (if you have some money left over! lol) something like a 50-250mm lens so that you have a zoom lens fuseful for things other than portraits. Both these lenses are reasonably priced too.

Considering what you're going to need it for, I'd suggest the most expensive dslr you can afford that comes with video as there isn't so much difference between models for someone of your skill level (I'm assuming none with a SLR) and intended use.

I'd buy the packet with the best lens you can get plus buy a 50mm 1.8 (or better) lens as much of your photography is going to be of a fast moving object, often times not in great lighting conditions (ie indoors).

The kit lens, while perfectly ok if you're willing to learn a bit about how to mess with your camera settings, might not be the best if you're only going to shoot in auto. Ideally you'd buy the fastest lens you can afford that also has a decent all-purpose zoom range. Something like a 24-70 2.8 (I had the Sigma one which was quite good for my needs at the time). Or the canon 17-55 2.8 though that's a bit pricey

I'd humbly also suggest reading my tutorial about photographing children HERE. I think you could learn some stuff from it.

In the end, any entry level dslr (with video) will do you just fine as you're not going to need much more, I'd save where i can and invest in lenses that are fast which means they'll work well in lower light conditions.
My two cents!
