Hello all,
I am new to the forum and I am already presenting you with a challenge. I have been working with a Canon XS (1000d) for about nine months now. So I have the basics of DSLR photography down pretty well and I can take some decent photos. I recently started "working" (volunteering) as a photographer for my university student newspaper. So I would really like to upgrade my 1000d to something with more capacities. I have been looking at the 50d recently and the photos look very nice. The main thing is higher ISO speed and higher quality. I looked it up on craigslist and there is a used one and the guy is asking $700. Comes with a grip and three batteries. I would like to know your opinions on if I need this camera and if that is a reasonable price. Sorry to bombard you with such a long post. Last edited by mangtarn; 09-19-2011 at 04:29 AM. |

"Need" is rather subjective. I recently posted a thread linking to a gentleman who is featured in the newest "Digital Photo Pro" mag that until recently, used a Canon XS to take some amazing fashion images.
The issue with the 50D is it's age. Things have progressed quite rapidly in the camera technology arena, and you will find that the newer entry-level DSLR cameras will probably do as much as the old 50D. I'd do some research comparing the 50d to some of the newer cameras, like the T3i/600D. And look at the 50D's update, the 60D. It will still use the same lenses you have, but sure provides more than the 50D.
