Which filter should I get?

Hello!!

I am trying to figure out what filer it is that I need! I have a Canon 30D. I am looking for a filter that will help out the color/contrast and all around image while I am photographing motocross. There is a large amount of dust and dirt that is in the air and it always just dingys up my pictures. Any help or direction will help immensely!

Welcome to DPS. I don't think a filter is going to help you with the dirt. Take a look here, for more information about filters.

Wouldn't recommend a Singh-Ray. Damned expensive.

Just get a medium-cost UV (I use Hoya multicoated). That way you won't trash the coatings on your front element by continually wiping off the front of your lens with a shirt-tail or microfiber cloth or lenspen brush or whatever. Replace as needed. (It's why I have 'em on my lenses. I shoot in dusty canyons and sandy beaches).

UV filters are good that way.

A circular polarizer might help with the contrast, but generally just having the sun at your back, or lighting a backlit subject from the front will solve that problem better. And CPLs are a lot more expensive than UVs to replace.

Quick tip - buy the filter big enough to fit the largest lens you would ever want to use in next 2-3 years.
All my lenses have 52 or 58mm size but I want to buy 77mm so that when I buy the pro grade I can use my filters.

I am in the same situation.
I am looking for some filters.
I use a cheap UV filter right now but looking to but polarizer.
Hoya seems to be great value for money.

Can some one recommend which is better buy of the two?
