Default I need a large format camera (canon)

I am wanting to go into commerical photography, my research says I need a large format, I also want to do weddings, portraits and other things, is a large format suitable for that. I am just now learning about the different cameras.

Do you mean full-frame? Large (and medium) format as I understand it is very specific and very expensive for high-end professional use. I don't think Canon makes anything of that, not digitally anyway.

I don't think you want a large format camera. they are very bulky and heavy...

In the film days, you'd be using a large format monorail camera. These days, unless you're an elite studio, you use digital SLRs.

Personally, I love large format cameras. It forces the photographer to think about what he's doing rather than just hammering away on the shutter all day. But, they're not instruments for beginners on beginner budgets. Film can be about a dollar a sheet (1 sheet = 1 photograph) and that doesn't include processing. If they make digital backs for large format cameras now, then they're definitely out of a beginner's price range. I'd be happy to be corrected on that last though.

For a medium format digital, you're looking at $6000 (mamiya) to $40,000 (hasselblad). I finally did a google search, and found one company that makes large format digital backs: Digital Scanning Backs for Large Format Photography

They use a weird design--it's more a scanner than a camera, but it's cheaper than a hasselblad.

I interviewed at a furniture studio that used all large format, and they were just upgrading to digital when I interviewed. The largest sensor at the time was medium format, and it still looks like that's the case today.

Default thanks everyone

I want to thank everyone for their replies, I looked up large format cameras and they are very pricey. I think I"ll probably just get a nice canon. Has anyone used a eos rebel T3i. I found a kit at best buy it comes with 18-55 lens & 55-250 lens for $1000 are they good lens and is that a good buy.
